Brandon, PFO = Palustrine Forested Wetland (Google: Cowardin Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the US). Palustrine, pretty much it means a freshwater wetland (salinity less than 0.5%) that is not a lake (Lacustrine) or river (Riverine). There are also Marine and Tidal wetlands classifications, but we don't have them in most of PA. We have tidally influenced wetlands in SE PA along the Delaware River, but I am not sure if the salinity gets high enough to be classified as tidal. PEM = Palustrine Emergent Wetland (wetland dominated by herbaceous vegetation, like cattail, sedges, grasses, flowers, horsetail, ferns, etc.) PSS = Palustine Scrub/Shrub Wetland (wetland dominated by woody vegetation {trees or shrubs} that are less than 20 feet tall) When I call a habitat PFO, PEM or PSS, I am really being lazy because I don't want to type out forested wetland, etc. Sorry for any confusion. I would assume the reason Tom says "unusual habitat" is because stinkpots usually favor open water habitats (lacustrine or riverine) or because my photo was sideways. Which is right Tom?

    I don't kiss and tell.

Yeah, it's not far from a drained lake (to be refilled in a few years) that formerly held a good number of them. I may be displaced due to this. We put it in the swampy pond in the background of the photo (as you can see, it's all up hill).

How can this be unconfirmed? I purposefully took the photo at a distance to show the amount to eggs. What else lays eggs in masses like that in Wayne County on 4/17?

Ummm. What's the deal with this one?
